Clinical Evaluation & Investigation of Medical Devices in Europe

Medical Devices Regulations (MDR) in Europe are currently under revision. The Medical Devices Directives shall be replaced by a new MDR in 2015. The EU Commission issued a new proposal in September 2012, which has been discussed for more than a year now on various levels. Among a variety of issues the topic of Clinical Evaluations and Clinical Investigations has been identified as an area of major concern, which needs significant improvement by the new regulation. This program will shed light on the proposed regulations and suggest strategies for dealing with the changing environment in Europe.

Inside GABA

In 2013 we honored Andreas Bechtolsheim with the GABA Lifetime Achievement Award in Business and Gerhard Casper with the GABA Lifetime Achievement Award in Education/Research. This year we will will honor outstanding achievements in German American business with the GABA Award of Excellence. We are pround to announce the winner of the GABA Award of Excellence 2014: Sebastiann Thrun, the CEO of Udacity, a company with the mission to democratize higher education. Previously, he was a Google Fellow and the founder of Google X, and a Stanford professor of computer science and electrical engineering. He led the Stanford team that won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge, and at Google he co-developed Google Streetview and the Google Self-Driving Car. In 2007, Thrun was elected into the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

14th Annual Oktoberfest Santa Cruz
The Messiah Lutheran Church in Santa Cruz warmly invites members of GABA to attend the 14th Annual Oktoberfest Santa Cruz celebration on Sunday, October 13th from 11:30AM to 2:30 PM. American audiences have been treated to an amazing spectrum of German films over the years. The past decade has been no exception. Having won two Oscars® for Best Foreign Language Film and having been nominated six times in the last ten years is proof that German films are a force on the international film scene. The Goethe-Institute Los Angeles is delighted that German Currents: Festival of German Film will begin with an opening film and gala on the evening of Friday, October 4th, 2013. Continuing through Monday, October 7th, German Currents will present a varied selection of current German cinema; including features, documentaries, short films, as well as a family/youth film.
