The ATC@EMBL: The new meeting place for the Life Sciences World

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with its headquarters in Heidelberg (Germany) is the flagship laboratory for Europe in the molecular life sciences. The US$ 50 million EMBL Advanced Training Centre is shaped like a DNA double helixis and scheduled to open in fall 2009. See during its presentation in San Francisco how it will become THE European meeting place for scientists from all over the world.

We are pleased to announce that Matthias Wolniak has joined GABA as a volunteer for project and database management. He moved to California after finishing his masters degree in Business Administration with majors in Finance and Controlling in Jena (Germany). Matthias is now working at the Corporate Finance Department of Siemens Healthcare in Mountain View. He has work experience in the areas of Finance and Sales.

New Co-Chair for Life Sciences Industry Group
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Edda Mihaescu Ph.D., P.E., Principal Engineer at Bayer Healthcare LLC, Berkeley, CA to the GABA Life Science Industry Group.Dr. Mihaescu is Principal Engineer at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals LLC, where she has been employed since 1994. She also serves as Project Manager for multiple projects on the Bayer Berkeley site. Her projects include R&D and Process Sciences Labs, QC Lab Buildings, Manufacturing, Sterile Filling and Freeze Drying Areas, a Vivarium, as well as Qualifications of Facilities and Equipment. Dr. Mihaescu received her doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Bucharest and is certified as a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California and she also obtained an Engineering Management Certificate from California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA.
